1976 Esaquartz Solar

A Dutch publication about the 1976 Basel Fair covered the new electronic movements and included a short description of a solar movement by ESA and photographs:

ESA 941631 13 ligne,
Quartz. Electronic module, solid state. Digital LCD (3 ½ digits). Permanent view of hours and minutes. Blinking point for each second. Indication (if you wish) of month, date, minutes and seconds. Lighting for reading in darkness. Independent correction possibilities. Solar cells and accumulator ensure the power through light. 32,768 Hz., diameter 29.00 mm., height 6.90 mm.

Apparently the Esaquartz Solar did not go into commercial production but some finished watches were produced. The Musée d'Horlogerie du Locle in Switzlerand (www.mhl-monts.ch) has an example of the watch in their collection and permitted the publication of this picture.
