1993 – Casio SG-100

Comment: This model came out not long after the Casio AL-180 in 1991 but differs greatly. This is one of the few watches where the solar panel area is larger than the digital display. Was this an aesthetic design decision? By the 1990’s it was not technically necessary to make the solar cells so large. Why did the designers do this? It is a thin watch. Perhaps it has no battery of any kind and the solar panel charges a capacitor.

It is a great design that integrates the solar cells very nicely into the look of the watch.
